Parents and students are more familiar with face-to-face tuition. Since schools allow one-to-one teaching on occasions, face-to-face tuition is often seen as an extension of this type of learning.
Online tutoring can be viewed as less effective, less personable, and providing less value for money compared to face-to-face tuition. However, online tutoring does have some incredible advantages i.e. the student in the comforts of their own home without a stranger impeding on their space. It also allows for more flexibility. As long as you have a stable internet connection, both tutors and students can complete sessions wherever they wish.
Each session delivered will last 60 minutes. Star Maths Tuition recognises that your time is valuable, and will strive to ensure your paid time with us is productive, engaging, and meaningful.
If you don't have a suitable computer/laptop, Star Maths can provide a free graphics tablet to ensure the session is fully interactive. Just let us know, and we'll be happy to arrange this for you.
Sessions are primarily delivered to students using software called Bit Paper. This allows both student and tutor to write on the actual software itself, meaning writing answers, showing your method of calculating answers, and making corrections are done easily and quickly.
Sessions are recorded and available for you to use at your leisure. This makes a very effective revision tool, and will help the student review the material learnt, and go through any content they may feel needs improving.
Students will also receive a PDF copy of hand-written model examples by the tutor as an additional revision tool.
Star Maths Tuition uses Microsoft Professional services for all communication and data storage. Star Maths Tuition tutors and staff all have an enhanced DBS certificate, and undergo regular training development.

We receive a lot of questions, so we hope to answer some of the more common questions here. Feel free to contact us if you have a question that we haven't answered, and we'll do our best to help.
Absolutely. Successful online tutoring and face-to-face tutoring have one thing in common - the quality and expertise of the teaching provided.
The obvious benefit to online tutoring is that the client and student can schedule tuition sessions according to their availability, without issues around the tutor being held up by traffic, or whether your home or accommodations are too far away. Another clear benefit is the use of additional IT resources to improve interactivity and engagement with the content i.e. videos, online whiteboards and technology. Whereas face-to-face may involve simple notes, worksheets and textbooks, your child will continue to develop and improve their own IT skills, as well as their Maths capabilities through online learning.
We've found that when a tutor is warm, friendly, engaging, and provides sessions with their students on a consistent basis, the rapport between student and tutor starts to build and eventually flourish. That's why Star Maths ensures we work with tutors who have both the subject knowledge and the personal qualities needed to connect with others. There are no guarantees students may build a rapport with a tutor if they attend face-to-face tuition sessions.
A computer or tablet with a stable internet connection.
We can provide each student with a graphics tablet to be able to fully engage with the session. These must be returned when you finish your tuition with us. Feel free to ask about this at any point during your tuition.
Due to the rising demand for online tuition with Star Maths, we can only provide weekly online tuition for our students. We've found that consistent delivery of tuition is beneficial for the tutor to understand the strengths, and areas of improvement for their students. A student benefits from regular interaction with their tutor, and they often feel more confident in expressing their thought processes when working through their material.
Don't worry! We've made this a very simple process, especially if you've never used tutoring services before. When you contact us, we'll give you available session times. You pick which one you want, give us some basic details about your child, read through our Learner Agreement (which details our terms & conditions for working together), and that's it!
Star Maths will send an invoice for pre-payment for each session. Payment must be received the day before the session. No tuition will take place without payment. Payments are to be made by BACS Transfer to our Business Account, and not to the tutor directly.
We understand that it’s sometimes necessary to cancel sessions due to other commitments. Our clients and students appreciate that the vast majority of tutors and staff rely on lessons as their main source of income. To balance the needs of our students and tutors, we have a 24-hour cancellation policy. If you need to cancel a lesson for any reason, please let your tutor know with at least 24 hours’ notice (unless there is an emergency). Non-emergency cancellations with less than 24 hours’ notice will be charged at the full session rate.
An email will be sent with a link (unique for each individual student and lesson) to the virtual classroom on the Bit Paper software. This is the software we use to deliver tuition. Sessions are delivered using online voice and video links. Your screen will be split-screen, with you, your tutor, and an interactive whiteboard, and/or other resources displayed on screen.
This is highly dependant on the child's progress. We wouldn't like to put a number on it. Consider tuition like driving lessons. Some students can learn and apply concepts straight away, while others need regular, consistent teaching. Most of our students stay with us for the full academic year.
Of course you can. Feedback is an important part of the process, and as a parent/guardian/carer, you can ask how your child is progressing. We also record the sessions, and make them available to your child for revision purposes, so you can see how the sessions are going.
Yes! One of the benefits of online tuition is that it doesn't matter where you are. As long as you have a stable internet connection and can interact with the session, then we'd love to hear from you. Star Maths welcomes students from beyond Doncaster. We've helped students around Yorkshire and down south too!
