Star Maths handles all client enquiries, payment and invoices from clients, and marketing. As a tutor, you can focus on planning and delivering exceptional online lessons to our students.

Flexible Scheduling

Star Maths does not set a minimum or maximum amount of tutor hours. We simply present tutoring opportunities, and you can decide whether to accept them. As a self-employed tutor, you have the autonomy and control to decide which jobs to take, the topics to teach, and how you teach.

Star Maths has accelerated its business growth strategy since its inception in 2023, expanding its pool of Doncaster tutors, regional tutors, and increasing its network of contacts within Doncaster. We welcome new ideas from tutors, and pride ourselves in being receptive to feedback and ways to improve our services.

What Tutors Are We Looking?

Online Tutors

Face-to-Face Tutors

Tutors who feel comfortable delivering online sessions would be very welcome. You would have access to the specialist tutoring software Bitpaper, and not have to concern yourself over travelling (aside from the Tutor Introduction).

Face-to-Face Tutors

Although we offer online tuition, we would welcome any tutors able to deliver face-to-face tuition. Online tuition is growing rapidly, but there is still an apetite for face-to-face tuition.

Homeschooling Tutors

The homeschooling market is increasing at a rapid rate, and we are very keen to hear from anyone who'd be interested in venturing into this area. Homeschooling occurs during daytime hours, and while the demand is high, the supply of tutors for this area is low. If you're interested, let us know.

In-School Tutors

Star Maths has contacts with various schools within Doncaster, and we'd be interested in hearing from tutors who could perhaps commit to providing specialised tutoring within schools when the opportunity arises. Tutors who can teach English, Maths or Science are highly sought after by schools, and we would love to hear from anyone who'd be interested in delivering sessions for schools.

Desirable Qualities

Teaching Experience (Classroom or Tutor)

Qualified Teacher Status, PGCE, or Equivalent

Experience within the classroom, or as a private tutor, with a demonstrable, strong academic record of educational development and attainment.

Qualified Teacher Status, PGCE, or Equivalent

Although not an expected standard across the tutoring industry, it would be a highly beneficial credential to have and demonstrate to potential clients. If you don't have this, we'd still like to hear from you.

Background Checks

An Enhanced DBS Certificate

As with all staff and self-employed tutors under the Star Maths umbrella, a clear, Enhanced DBS Certificate is essential.

ID Checks

An Enhanced DBS Certificate

ID Checks (right to work checks) include two forms of ID, which will include a combination of, but not limited to: passport, driving license, approved ID card, birth certificate, utility bill, bank statement, official letter from Government department with NI number.

Qualification Checks

Proof of qualifications will be required. These include certificates, and can be submitted with your CV, or presented at the interview stage.

Written References

Qualification Checks

Written references will be sought from past/current employers. We will not contact your references without your prior permission.

How Does Self Employment Tutoring Work?

As a self-employed tutor, you will be responsible for your own tax affairs, and ensuring you send the correct amount of tax to HMRC. Star Maths Tuition has no say in your schedule, working hours, or how you decide to teach.

Once you commence tutoring sessions with Star Maths Tuition, you will be responsible for registering as self-employed with HMRC, and filing a Self-Assessment Tax Return each year.

If you are unsure how the Self-Assessment system works, we strongly urge you to seek independent tax advice from an accountant, or financial professional with experience navigating through the tax system.
